Rachel Barnette, MS, LPC
Driven by my personal experience with therapy's healing potential and a deep desire to help people, I became a therapist in order to support others to discover their own inner strength and resilience. My approach centers on fostering self-discovery, processing and building acceptance for challenging emotions, and cultivating self-compassion. I'm particularly adept at helping my clients to explore how past experiences impact their day to day lives and to forge a path to heal from these experiences in order to bring about lasting and positive change.
I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma, specifically survivors of sexual abuse. I also work with individuals with a spectrum of diagnoses, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and complex grief. I am LGBT+ affirming and a proud member of the LGBT+ community myself. While I bring my own background, identity, experience and skills to the therapeutic relationship, I recognize that everyone is an expert on themselves. As such, I prioritize a collaborative and client-centered approach.
I earned my Master's in Counseling Psychology, which provided me with a strong foundation in evidence-based therapeutic modalities. My training emphasized the importance of understanding the complexities of human experience and the impact of systemic factors on mental health. Since graduating, I have dedicated myself to working directly with clients, providing trauma-informed care and facilitating individual growth. I have consistently witnessed the power of therapeutic connection in fostering healing and empowerment, and I am committed to creating a safe and supportive space for my clients to explore their vulnerabilities and build a more fulfilling life.

Everyone has things they want or need to do. With the many demands of modern life, having support can be a powerful way to honor your aspirations. My work centers on helping you rediscover momentum through a lens that respects the unique way you process the world. I believe that variations in how we focus, manage time, or organize our lives are normal parts of human diversity—traits to understand and work with, rather than problems to be fixed. While we all have natural tendencies, I also believe these traits have a certain malleability, ebbing and flowing in relationship to our emotional safety. Because of neuroplasticity—the brain’s natural ability to change—it’s possible that increasing emotional safety can open up new possibilities for how you engage with your world.
I offer support through two complementary approaches—most often blending the two. When working top-down, we’ll focus on honoring your unique wiring, partnering to develop strategies for focus and organization that fit your brain and lifestyle. Simultaneously, when working bottom-up, we’ll focus on building that essential foundation of safety. We’ll address the deeper, invisible barriers to engagement by building insight into old patterns and releasing emotions that have become stuck in the body, using focused discussion or creative expression when words just aren’t enough.
I specialize in supporting individuals navigating trauma and grief, young adults discovering their unique paths to fulfillment, and parents striving to raise resilient children. My practice is guided by my degree in occupational therapy and the conviction that we find our way back to ourselves through engagement in “occupations”—the meaningful activities that define our lives. My work is equally informed by my own history of trauma recovery and by my experiences working with children, educators, and survivors of complex trauma. I strive to create a warm environment where you feel accepted and understood. Wherever you are on your journey, it would be my honor to help you discover greater meaning and satisfaction in your life.

One of the most fundamental ways we connect with ourselves and the world around us is through our bodies. I see your body as your home, and I understand that this home can sometimes carry the weight of deep emotions, past trauma, stress, or unresolved experiences, manifesting as physical tension or chronic pain. Through releasing these physical restrictions and promoting alignment, I empower you to heal and participate more fully in your life. My bodywork sessions are tailored to each individual and are often a blend of hands-on myofascial release, breathwork and educational movement. Every session is designed to create a safe space for your body to process and release stored tension and better integrate, leading to a renewed sense of well-being and a deeper connection to yourself.
My comprehensive approach to bodywork is shaped by my training as a yoga teacher, breathwork practitioner, and by my career as a licensed occupational therapist with a focus on manual therapy. It was during my time working with pain patients in a medical practice that my passion for manual bodywork emerged, as I witnessed firsthand how the body remembers what the mind might try to forget. Since that time, I've enhanced my skills with specialized training in John Barnes Myofascial Release, cupping, and kinesiotaping.
My aim is to help you cultivate a profound sense of embodiment in a way that is tailored to you, allowing you to move beyond past limitations and embrace a life of greater freedom and vitality. I invite you to experience how gentle, intentional bodywork can transform your relationship with your physical self and support you to feel taller and lighter in the world.
